April 18-23 Archaeology Expedition

This event is no longer on sale.

Sunday April 18

6:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

The Archaeology Excavation Expedition is Montpelier’s most popular week-long participatory program. This is a week-long hands-on volunteer and educational experience in which you will work side-by-side with professional archaeologists on actual archaeological research sites on the Montpelier property.  While digging through Madison-era deposits, you will experience the excitement of uncovering artifacts and features that have been buried for more than two centuries!

This week-long expedition begins Sunday at 6:00pm and ends Friday at 4:00pm. Those staying in on-site housing will have the option of staying over Friday night and departing Saturday morning. Participants are responsible for their own housing arrangements.

Optional Montpelier On-Site Housing

If you wish to stay on-site during one of our expeditions, there are limited rooms available in Montpelier's Constitution Village. Constitution Village consists of several DuPont era historic homes built in the early 1900's that are located in a beautiful setting within the gated historic core of the Montpelier property about .7 miles from the visitor center and about .2 mile from the Archaeology Lab. This housing option includes private rooms with key carded entry to the house and your individual room. Homes include a kitchen with 1 full size refrigerator, dining, and living area. These homes are heated and air conditioned. Bed linens and towels are provided. The cost is an additional $650 for the week.(NOTE: You MUST email dig@montpelier.org to request a room, and be aware that this is a special request made through a different department and so requests can take a little while to process).
